Employee Ownership Month 2015 –

Download Your Press & Event Planning Kit Today

2015EOMKitCOVERsmallEvery October, The ESOP Association and its members celebrate Employee Ownership Month (EOM). Each summer, the Press & Event Planning Kit, which highlights EOM activities of ESOP Association members, is shared with all corporate members to help generate event ideas.

Download your copy of the 2015 Press & Event Planning Kit.

EOM is a celebration of the incredible spirit of employee ownership and an opportunity to educate employee owners about the tremendous benefits of ESOPs. It’s also an opportunity to educate the public, elected officials, and the media as to why employee ownership through ESOPs is good public policy and this Kit will help you in your endeavors.

A special message from ESOP Association President, J. Michael Keeling:

“It is with significant pride that The ESOP Association provides this one of a kind Press & Event Planning Kit, or EOM Kit, to members. While it may sound like bragging, this attractive document is really an activities, advocacy, media, and even a marketing kit, in one. I feel comfortable that if any company went to a reputable inside-the-beltway public relations firm focused on public policy for such a document, the price tag would run in the thousands of dollars if developed from scratch. And, each year, the local and national recognition of ESOP companies’ activities during EOM becomes more prominent, helping our community make the case to our national decision makers that ESOPs are our best national jobs and retirement savings policy. Let us know if you have questions about using the Kit.”

Get started TODAY! A link to the Kit can be found on the Employee Ownership Month page.

If you have questions or would like to submit stories and photos about your EOM events, please send an email to media@esopassociation.org.

You will receive in the coming weeks a complimentary copy of this year’s winning poster designed by ASU Group in Okemos, Michigan (pictured at top).

Additional copies of the poster can be ordered online here.

First National Bank of Bemidji (FNBB) located in Bemidji, Minnesota sent in the following: Aloha! First National Bank of Bemidji has been employee owned since 1985, and since 2006, FNBB has chosen a week in October to celebrate employee ownership. The ESOP Communications Committee began planning this year’s celebration in August, and planned a week’s worth of games, food, and ESOP education for all employee owners. The theme for the celebration was, “Hawaiian Luau.” Not only did employee owners get involved in the celebration and fun events; they took every opportunity to discuss employee ownership with customers as well. The “I’m an Owner” nametags spurred many of these conversations, as well as the Hawaiian apparel that employees were wearing all week.

FNBB’s ESOP Week Celebration began on October 2nd with a kick-off meeting to share all of the events planned for the following week. The bank’s ESOP administrative committee members and communications committee members participated in a wacky tourist relay, and “The Bank (Beach) Boys” performed, “Surfin’ USA.”

The events held during ESOP Week included luau-themed games in our courtyard, a pig roast for our luau lunch, a Hawaiian food/baking contest, and ESOP trivia. The fun-filled week concluded with performances from each department, where employees had to incorporate both ESOP and one of the Hawaiian Islands into a performance about ESOP/retirement. As usual, creativity exceeded expectations, and employees revealed some hidden talents! It was another successful year of celebrating and promoting employee ownership!

From CEO of Gripnail, Chris Ryding: We hoisted Harpoon beer in honor of a New England company joining our ranks. (Notice all the tops are still on; drinking begins at home!) Yes, that’s me in the Jimmy Buffet shark fin hat. Employee owners worked hard on the Gripnail ESOP quiz and Gripnail employees contributed $300 in cash and four boxes of food to the RI Food Bank; delivered by the employees whose team won the quiz! Gripnail matched the employees’ contribution, and the Food Bank corporate donors matched our combined donation — win, win, win!

ESOPs on YouTube

On The ESOP Association’s website, there are links to some great videos by ESOP Association members. These videos provide a laugh, some thoughtful introspection on being part of an ESOP company, and the benefits of being employee owned.  There are also a few policy based videos as well that bring a different perspective to the conversation.  In the spirit of sharing the ESOP message during Employee Ownership Month, we thought we’d share the link to let you see for yourself what a creative bunch ESOP people are.  Keep in mind, this is just a sample, there are MANY more out there.

You can find the list here.

A proclamation is issued by a legislative body designating an official observance of Employee Ownership Month. You can ask your mayor, state representative, or governor to issue a proclamation.

Following are 2014 Employee Ownership Month Proclamations that members have shared with the Association. Additional proclamations will be added to The ESOP Association website in the following weeks.
